My Experience Interning at Tierney
Hello! My name is Heather Gaskell and I am currently interning at Tierney as a copywriter. Tierney is a full-service ad agency, located at 17 & Market, here in Philly. Their clients include Comcast, Yuengling, TD Bank, Independence Blue Cross, McDonald’s, PECO and The Please Touch Museum. I started as an intern in September and will be continuing my internship in the spring. As far as my intern duties, I work primarily on Comcast, TD Bank and Independence Blue Cross. I have also worked on some internal agency stuff such as program ads for sponsored events and some Instagram posts for their page.
Overall, I really have enjoyed my experience at Tierney. I like the culture and the employees are really nice and friendly. I get to work on a lot of the same projects as the junior copywriters. Sometimes another junior and I will work on the same project and they always give me credit for the lines I have written. This is cool because in some agencies the agency culture pressures employees to take credit for ideas that are not their own. Through my experience at Tierney, I have been able to see how an agency operates and meet people who are super passionate about what they do. I have also been able to interview some of the women at Tierney for my podcast, Bitches With Pitches.
Overall, I really enjoy it at Tierney. My goals as I continue into the spring are to work on more brands, sit in on concepting meetings, and get to know more of the creatives at Tierney. I am excited for the opportunity and am looking forward to building my skills.
Hi Heather,
I recently visited Tierney with you and some fellow classmates in our copy class. It was so insightful and interesting to see what an ad agency looks like, and get to meet some of the talented people in our industry. It seemed like you had a great relationship with many of the people there! I haven’t had any experience at an agency yet, so hearing about your experience is really helpful. I wish you the best of luck in your future at the company!
Best, Mary Bonczkiewicz
