Hello everyone! My name is Deonte Woodbury, and I’m a senior advertising major at Temple University. I had the amazing opportunity of being able to intern with the Temple Athletics department as a Creative Content Assistant.

For most of my life I’ve been playing sports and have always been the one in front of the camera, interning here has taught me what the other side is like behind the camera. I learned what it takes to capture the right moment at the right timing and just how to get the perfect shot.

This experience has taught me the complexity of media production in sports, particularly how crucial behind-the-scenes work is in creating a compelling narrative. I learned not only technical skills in editing but also the importance of teamwork, organization, and effective communication.

The experience exceeded my expectations in terms of hands-on learning. I initially thought it would be solely about technical skills, but I was pleasantly surprised by the emphasis on storytelling and the creative process.

For anybody looking to pursue an internship that involves content and media my advice is to be proactive and take advantage of every learning opportunity. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek feedback. Building connections is crucial for learning purposes so make an effort to network and engage with your team.

During my internship I gained practical skills in photo editing software and a deeper understanding of the production process. I developed a stronger understanding of how to create compelling visual narratives and learned about the importance of anticipating the audience’s reaction when creating content.
