Who Said Interns are Just Coffee Runners
Hi!
My name is Amaria Estes and I am a junior studying advertising with a minor in event planning. I currently have an internship with a start up company called Only Elite Matters. They are an agency that builds brands through artistic content and experiential events. Once I found this company I knew it was a perfect fit for me. Event planning plus ad agency experience..sign me up! I interviewed with them and jumped right in. At first I thought the typical “college intern” experience consisted of getting the boss coffee or doing the work that nobody else wanted to do but this internship was anything BUT that!
While doing this internship I gained experience through building content, meeting client needs and event execution. I spent a lot of time running client social media pages, planning for events, allocating budget expenses for clients and attending client meetings.
One of my favorite projects during this internship was the “Phenomenal Women in Philly” event. This event was aimed to build the brand of local artists and create a positive networking opportunity for women. It included a panel discussion among women and entertainment for another client who is a singer. OEM is very good about integrating brands and build brand awareness for their clients. The experience that I gained from this event was how to build brands through events. I took part in the set up, the communication with the vendors for the event and I event got the opportunity to do a site walk through where the company members walk around the venue prior to the event.
Another on site event that I attended was for their client, the Overcame Foundation. We participated in covering their event with a video recap. I covered it through social media on this account.
This is far from going to fetch coffee for the big boss in charge and I loved it! I also gained many networking opportunities through this internship and met so many people in the city.
