Working at a Jazz Organization

My name is Runhao Li. The internship that I am currently doing is a nonprofit organization called, Jazz Philadelphia. Jazz Philadelphia’s goal is to be a central hub for all things jazz related in Philadelphia. Jazz Philadelphia is meant to be a place in which people can get their jazz related news. Jazz Philadelphia does have a website that showcases the events that will be happening in Philadelphia throughout the year.

Working at Jazz Philadelphia taught me to always ask questions when needed. Luckily, my superiors are very easy to talk to, they are always there when I need to ask them questions. The overall experience working at Jazz Philadelphia was intriguing, I learned many things while working at the organization. In the beginning of the internship, I thought I would be going around talking to the many jazz musicians that are stationed in Philadelphia, but in reality, I did very little talking to jazz musicians, most of the time, I am gathering information for the Jazz Philadelphia website.

There are many people in the organization, who inspire me, but the one that stands out the most is my immediate boss. Aside from Jazz Philadelphia, she is also a folk singer, she runs another company, and she has her foot in many different fields. Her work ethic inspires me to be better.

At the end of the day, working at Jazz Philadelphia was a great learning experience. I was glad that I was apart of the organization right from the beginning stages. I wish to learn more in the organization in the future.
