Zeswitz: Education through instrumental music across the Northeast!
Hi everyone! My name is Natalie Torchia, and this is my 3rd year at Temple University. I’m an Advertising major with dual concentrations in Account Management and Media Planning. My Social Media Manager position at Zeswitz Music started as an internship back in March of this year, thanks to a referral from another organization! Since then, I’ve had a great time learning with Zeswitz, especially being that I was heavily involved in instrumental music programs from 4th-12th grade.
Above all, my experiences with Zeswitz have taught me about finding the best content to represent the company with which I’m working. Because they were never consistently kept up prior, I didn’t have a ton to reference before representing their brand on socials. This meant a lot of trial and error. Even down to the font, I’ve always been focused on staying true to Zeswitz’s brand, while managing to appeal to our followers (and beyond). I’ve become a lot more confident in determining what works and what doesn’t- and it shows in the results!
Being the only social media person at Zeswitz, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to fully take on all aspects of social media management- content design, content marketing, community managing, etc. Because of this, I’ve come to realize that this structure is how I’d love for my future career choice(s) to be like. I had always thought I’ve worked better in teams, and would usually avoid taking on work solo. Now, I really appreciate that my position with Zeswitz allows me to challenge myself, while continuing to have a positive impact on musicians with our social media.
Something pretty cool that I noticed most through my experience is how different areas of expertise within Zeswitz are always actively working with each other for overall company success. There are five main areas within Zeswitz- Education, Instrument Rental, Instrument Purchasing, Instrument Distribution, and Repair. Despite all serving different purposes, I find it so cool how they all manage to connect with each other.
An Example: Students renting instruments with us can receive free repairs if needed through their schools.
A student hands their instrument into the school > The school sends the instrument to the Zeswitz Warehouse > Technicians make any necessary repairs > The instruments are sent to the warehouse, waiting to be shipped back to the student > The instrument is sent back to the school from Zeswitz, who then returns it to the student.
Although every single one of Zeswitz’s departments are involved with different tasks, they all come together to meet the same goal: Fix the instrument, and return it safely back to the student.
This experience has been a lot more than I thought it would be, and I can’t wait to continue full-time with Zeswitz. This position has been really eye-opening, and I can confidently say I know what it feels like to really enjoy your job. Combining my passions for music and social media with professional opportunities is amazing- and I strongly encourage everyone to do it.
To anyone who hasn’t yet completed an internship, remember that it’s okay to change it up and try new things! Determining the best social media management process took some time for me, but was worth it in the end. Taking chances allowed me to ultimately find the right tools for my most efficient work flow.
