My name is Andrew Benecke and I am a rising Senior Advertising Account Management major.  This summer I received an internship offer from Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) to work as an Account Management Intern in the Underwriting Department.  Philadelphia Insurance Companies is headquartered in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. I was eager to join team PHLY in its Home Office Habitational Underwriting Division, but due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the internship program was modified.  So like the majority of people employed in all disciplines across the country for Philadelphia Insurance Companies, I am working from home.

At the start of my internship I was shipped my own laptop, secondary monitor and all the necessary cable connections I would need to set up my home office. Members of PHLY’s IT Department were very helpful with the setup of the equipment. Although my internship time was scaled back, I’m still finding value in my experience.  I had to hone my email skills in order to communicate with my manager and supervisor. I may not have focused on my email skills had I not been forced to use it as a major form of communication during this time away from the office.

  1. Andrew, that’s amazing they sent you a computer and monitor to prepare for this position. I can relate to adjusting to an online internship and the changes that it presents. I have also had to learn to replace in person interactions with sharper written communications. I am glad you had a great experience!
