Internship at the Sporting Club at the Bellevue

I am doing my internship at the Sporting Club at the Bellevue.  I am primarily doing the ad sales for their new magazine.  I never realized how hard it could be to sell an ad!  Finally, late last week I received confirmation that the chocolate store in the Bellevue wants to put a half page ad in the second issue of our magazine.  I will make 10% of the sale!  This week I am going to a few bars/lounges around the city and I am going to try and sell this ad space.  Will keep you all posted, hope everyone is doing well.

  1. From discussions in class I would not think that selling ad space would be difficult either. From a buying standpoint however (my internship) I can kind of see how it can be hard. Sometimes other sellers offer something a bit more appealing. I believe it is all in the approach. I do not know how you sell, but from looking at seller’s proposals you have to believe in the sale. Present it in a way that shows that if you were on the other side of the table you would purchase the space yourself. Present in a way that stands out from the rest. That is what resonates with the buyer. Good luck! Hope things continue to go well.

  2. That’s so cool! A commission is a great accomplishment for an intern. How did you do in selling the ad space to the local bars you went to? Which bars/lounges did you go to? Just curious but what steps do you go through to sell ad space?
