Early Experience as a Harmelin Media Intern

Hello everyone my name’s Kyle Killoran and I’m heading into my Junior Year at Temple. For the past few weeks I’ve been working as an intern at a media buying agency called Harmelin Media, located nearby in Bala Cynwyd. Over what’s been a short period of time, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of great people and learn a lot at the same time. While I have gotten to work on a number of different campaigns, the main client that I have spent my time on is BET. This has provided me with a chance to get great hands-on experience working on their biggest campaign of the year, promoting the BET Awards last month. Within this campaign I got an in-depth look at nearly every aspect of the process of media planning and buying. From the  initial creation of the plan, to dealing with the client, and eventually putting the plan into action, by buying spots in different media outlets. I primarily dealt with the radio aspect of the buying process, which gave me great insight into how things work on that side of it.

Coming into this internship, I had a very limited knowledge as to what the practice of media planning and buying entailed. Aside from the Intro to Media Buying course at Temple, I otherwise had no experience in the field. However throughout my time here I have learned a great deal about what is an integral aspect of the overall advertising process. As I move towards the end of my time as an intern here, I look forward to continuing to learn from the opportunities that are presented to me.
