Expanding My Horizons

I never considered being an advertising production specialist until I saw how rewarding and successful my team is at Subaru.

As a senior copywriting major, I am getting close the part of my life where I have to start considering what I want to do with the rest of my life. Working as the advertising intern for Subaru of America, I have been given the opportunity to expand my horizons. My title is the National Advertising Intern and I work on the advertising team on the marketing department. During an interview with a possible candidate for the 2018-2019 intern, I was asked to explain what the most valuable thing I have gained from this experience. I sat there for a moment, trying to come up with an answer to impress the interviewee, my managers watching, and sound intelligent.

I realized I didn’t have to fake anything to sound genuine. This internship has truly expanded my horizons, and has set me up for success in the future. The reason I say this is because now I get to go into the workforce having my copywriting experience as well as experience on the client side. I never considered being an advertising production specialist until I saw how rewarding and successful my team is at Subaru. As much as I enjoy writing ads, I think it’s great opportunity for me to see the ads before hand. My team even takes my opinion into consideration when making edits or creative choices about the ads. This mostly for TV, video, print, and sometimes radio ads. After I explained this to the candidate we were interviewing, I felt really accomplished and like I will learn a lot from this internship.
